The Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 6850 (OS6850) series is comprised of layer-3 Gigabit Ethernet fixed configuration switches that address the needs of modern enterprise and triple-play networking with flexible, stackable configurations; power-over-Ethernet, high availability, first-packet wire-speed performance, and dramatically improved network response time over past models. Also included in the OS6850 family is the OmniSwitch 6850L, a Fast Ethernet model that is upgradeable to Gigabit. All of the models in the family are stackable with other OmniSwitch 6850 models and perform wire-rate layer-2 switching and layer-3 routing for both IPv4 and IPv6 with optimal quality of service (QoS) for mission critical applications. The flexible configuration options makes the OS6850s suitable for a small/medium network in the core or at the edge of a large network where they deliver line-rate gigabit switching and routing performance along with extensive network security features.
